Key Features & Benefits:
  • Year-Round Vibrant Foliage: Enjoy dense, upright clumps of glossy, rich green, strap-like leaves that provide continuous color and texture to your landscape.
  • Charming Seasonal Blooms: From winter through spring, the plant sends up elegant stalks (panicles) bearing small, star-shaped, pale blue or violet flowers with contrasting yellow stamens.
  • Striking Blue Berries: The flowers are followed by highly ornamental, glossy, deep metallic-blue berries the size of an olive, which provide a beautiful accent and added visual interest through summer and autumn. Note: The fruit is toxic and should not be consumed.
  • Low Maintenance & Adaptable: This resilient plant requires little care once established, making it a perfect solution for busy gardeners. It tolerates both dry and moist conditions and resists pests and diseases.
  • Versatile Landscaping Use: Ideal for a multitude of applications: use it as an eye-catching accent plant, in mass plantings for a lush groundcover, along borders, around pools, or in containers.
  • Drought Tolerant: While it performs best with regular watering, established plants are notably drought-tolerant, making them a water-wise choice for sustainable gardens.

Growing and Care:

Dianella is a low-maintenance and resilient plant, making it a popular choice for busy gardeners.
Light: The plant thrives in partial shade to full shade, especially in hotter interior climates, but can tolerate full sun in cooler coastal areas. Harsh afternoon sun can scorch the leaves.
Water: It prefers average to moist, but well-drained soil. While established plants are drought-tolerant, they look best with regular watering and cannot withstand prolonged dry periods without some irrigation.
Soil: It is not particular as to soil type or pH but requires well-drained soil to prevent root rot.
Maintenance: Minimal pruning is needed. Remove expired or tattered leaves and spent flower stems to keep it tidy. The plant can be divided in the cooler months or spring to propagate.
