Agave attenuata, commonly known as the Foxtail Agave, is a striking, spineless succulent valued for its smooth, arching leaves and elegant, sculptural form. Unlike traditional agaves, it has soft leaf edges, making it a safer and more versatile option for residential landscapes.
This plant thrives in full sun to partial shade and is highly drought-tolerant once established, making it ideal for Maui’s climate. Its unique rosette shape and flowing texture create a bold focal point in modern, tropical, or minimalist garden designs.
Perfect for accent planting, container use, or mass planting in clean landscape layouts, Agave attenuata adds structure, contrast, and a refined aesthetic while requiring minimal maintenance.
Prefers well-draining soil. Performs best in sandy or rocky soils common in Maui. If soil is heavy or clay-like, improve drainage by adding cinder, sand, or gravel.
Very low-maintenance. Remove older bottom leaves as they dry out to keep a clean appearance. Minimal fertilization is needed—light feeding once or twice a year is enough.
